An Academic Meeting to Enjoy a Tourist Destination, the First in South America
CAIE 2015 will allow participants to discover and enjoy the architectural beauties, the history, culture and many other attractions Quito to be considered as “Tourist Destination, Leading in South America”; recognition granted to the Ecuadorian capital during the 21st regional version of the World Travel Awards (WTA-2014), known as the “Oscars” of the tourism industry.
The city of Quito is located in the Cordillera de los Andes at 2 800 meters above the sea level and has a sunny climate due to its proximity to the 0 ° parallel. It is surrounded by Pichincha, Antizana and Cotopaxi, Cayambe volcanoes. Quito possesses the most representative and largest historical center of Ecuador and the Americas, reason why in 1978 the city of Quito was declared by UNESCO as the “World First Heritage Site”.
Founded by the Spaniards in 1534 on the ruins of the Aboriginal Centre of “Los Shyris”, Quito is divided into three areas with its own architectural features and cultural particularities. The North is located gathers modern Quito with urban and commercial structures; the Centre, with its colonial town: churches, chapels, monasteries, convents, squares, museums, old houses and republican constructions; and the South which highlights youth expressions, new forms of culture and social interactions.
In recent years, the expansion of the city towards the North-East: “Valle de Tumbaco” and to the Southeast: “Valle de Los Chillos”, both sectors have generated advances in industry, trade and the economy.
