Montreal, Canada. 08/31/2017.- The Conference of the Americas on International Education (CAIE)’s Collaboration Agreement continues to attract the support of new partners. Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan), an association representing Canada’s professional and technical educational establishments has become CAIE’s 37th associate member and its fifth member in Canada, the host country of CAIE’s next edition, which will take place from October 11-13, 2017, in Montreal.
As the spokesperson for Canadian colleges, insitutes, and cegeps, CICan is a world leader in employment-oriented education with programs in over 25 countries. Colleges and institutes contribute to inclusive economic growth by generating over 190 billion dollars in annual economic benefits and working with a host of private and community partners to offer over 12,000 training programs on campuses in urban, rural, remote, and northern areas.
“The two organizations share values that make this alliance a natural partnership, such as the importance given to the relationship between the educational and industry sectors, and the priority accorded to the technical and technological aspects of higher education”, explained Dr. David Julien, Executive Secretary of CAIE.
“We consider education as a meeting space where professionals and educators in technical and technological fields work in collaboration with the public and private sectors, as well as with communities, to develop within students the skills necessary to succeed in a constantly changing environment. In this regard, we have devoted a number of workshops and parallel sessions to this subject during CAIE in October that involve the participation of Canadian colleges and technological institutes from several Latin-American countries”, continued Dr. Julien.
“We are thrilled to partner with CAIE and to continue to reflect together on the future of post-secondary education in the Americas”, added Denise Amyot, President and CEO of CICan, “The Canadian colleges and insistutes that we represent are leaders in employment-oriented education and have a rich history in international collaboration. As such, they have contributed over the years to the construction of common spaces for dialogue promoting the exchange of best practices to improve the delivery of post-secondary education throughout the world.”
In addition to this, CICan has also become an associate member of the Inter-American Organizaton for Higher Education – IOHE (a founding member and current Executive Secretariat of CAIE). During CAIE Canada-2017 the 5th Meeting of the Inter-American Space for Technical and Technological Higher Education (EIESTEC) will also take place, another activitiy where the aims of CAIE and CICan intersect. The meeting, organized by IOHE, represents an effort to better position and strengthen technical and technological education with short programs and to connect these post-secondary programs with those offered by vocational training insitutions.
This year, the Executive Secretariat of CAIE is making preparations for the event – which will take place from October 11-13, 2017, in Montreal – in the context of the celebration of the city’s 375th anniversary as well as the 150th anniversary of Canadian confederation.
CAIE welcomes CICan. It is certain that these alliances will assist both entities in continuing to develop mechanisms for the diffusion of learning and experience related to the internationalization of higher education and to encourage the development of important life-skills and capacities.
