Montreal, Canada, 06/12/2017. The Conference of the Americas on International Education (CAIE) invites the 36 signatory members of its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to put forward nominations for the Inter-America Award, which will be given during the fifth edition of the conference (CAEI Canada-2017) taking place on October 11-13 in Montreal, Canada. The deadline for nominations is July 12.
In this context, the Executive Secretariat of CAIE has shared an explanatory document about the award with its members, which includes instructions for participation, selection criteria, the mechanism and process of candidate selection, as well as the dates of the convocation, selection and the final announcement of the recipient.
The Inter-America Award is presented to an individual who has distinguished themselves in the domain of higher education in the Americas. Since 2012, this has been a key activity and highly symbolic in the development of CAIE. The selection takes into account aspects such as international development and cooperation on the continent and contribution to the establishment of intercultural and international ties in the region, as well as the improvement of the well-being and living conditions among the people of this continent.
During previous editions, the Inter-America Award was presented to:
- CAIE-Brazil 2012. Carlos Fuentes, writer, Mexico;
- CAIE-Mexico 2013. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, ex-President, Brazil;
- CAIE-Ecuador 2015. Ignacio Ellacuría, ex-University President, philosopher, and professor, El Salvador.
The selection of a recipient will be carried out by the members of CAIE’s Executive Committee, which is composed of its three founding organizations (the Canadian Bureau for International Education -CBIE, the Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration – CONAHEC, and the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education -IOHE) as well as two national Committees from previous editions of CAIE (Mexico 2013 and Ecuador 2015).
