CAEI-2023: THE FUTURE IS NOW!

The Conference of the Americas on International Education (CAEI) is the continental forum of excellence that gathers key players and decision-makers involved in the internationalization of higher education in the Americas to address common challenges, share new trends, paradigms, strategies, and best practices in international education as we build the future of academic cooperation in the hemisphere.

In this context CAIE-2023, to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, convenes higher-education institutions, international education practitioners, scholars and academics, government representatives, and civil society, to submit proposals for posters and parallel sessions that highlight best practices, case studies, or innovative approaches to current trends and challenges in international education. 

Strong proposals will gather a group of presenters from diverse academic, professional, cultural, and geographic backgrounds. An opportunity to showcase how we are building the future of international education.

Conference Main Theme

With its main theme, The Future is Now, CAIE-2023 is inviting higher education institutions (HEIs) and international education professionals to take a closer look at the challenges of our post-pandemic reality, the urgent need to address climate change, the social and economic implications of migratory flows taking place in our continent and other regions of the world, and see the opportunity to apply the creativity and ingenuity of our sector to promote regional, national, and international research and academic collaborations, develop global talent and educate skilled professionals while advancing innovative solutions for the international sustainable development agenda.

A valuable occasion to reconvene with members of the international academic community and share our most recent experiences to jointly build the future of international education.

Conference Subthemes

Now more than ever, higher education institutions participate in national, international, and transnational networks to motivate new research, innovation, and knowledge transfer projects. Their interaction with different partners and stakeholders – government, industry, and civil society, among them – provide opportunities to align their ingenuity and capabilities to address the most pressing contemporary challenges. 

Under this subtheme, we welcome proposals that showcase successful multilateral knowledge-driven partnerships and collaborations aligned with the global sustainable development agenda, working on the resolution of important challenges like the education of skilled professionals and international talent, addressing climate change, or advancing renewable energies, to name a few. We also welcome case studies and institutional best practices offering insights into the design and structure of successful international research partnerships.

The gradual but steady transformation of our societies and workplaces, coupled with the unexpected challenges brought about by the global pandemic, has allowed for the incorporation of information technologies and the radical transformation of our classrooms and academic processes. Higher education institutions have demonstrated a remarkable capacity to adapt their approaches to teaching and learning, encourage innovation, and foster international collaboration to offer students and future graduates activities that reach beyond their classrooms and laboratories and develop the necessary skills to become active participants in society. 

This sub-theme welcomes successful examples of pedagogical, curricular, or academic innovations resulting from international or multilateral partnerships. Collaborative online international learning, virtual student mobility, and virtual work placements are but some examples of enhanced pedagogical strategies and innovations being adopted at every level of higher education. 

Our ability to come together in hard times is proof of the strength and relevance of our national, regional, and international partnerships and strategic alliances. Despite the challenges that our sector has faced in recent times, higher education institutions have seen the opportunity to reimagine new approaches to academic collaboration, refocus on domestic and international initiatives, and identify innovative best practices in the field of internationalization.

For this sub-theme, we invite proposals that showcase the contribution of international education practitioners in designing and implementing innovative strategies to enhance international academic collaboration, promote the internationalization of the campus and the curriculum, and improve access to diverse, inclusive, intercultural, and sustainable international experiences, for all members of the academic community, at home or abroad.

Our planet is facing important and increasingly urgent challenges that condition and compromise our future. While different solutions appear within our reach, their promise of success will largely depend on the true engagement and active participation of higher education institutions, local and national governments, industry, community groups, and society at large. We are being encouraged to build strong, diverse, and sustainable international partnerships to facilitate cooperation and articulate collaborative, inclusive, and equitable solutions that promote development and guarantee long-term sustainability.

For this sub-theme, we welcome proposals that showcase progressive strategies or mechanisms implemented by higher education institutions to work with diverse stakeholders and partner organizations at the local, regional or international levels to directly contribute to the advancement of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Parallel Sessions

  • The title and abstract of all approved proposals, including those that have been merged, will be posted on the conference’s website, event platform, and/or electronic program, be it in their original format or an edited version in compliance with established parameters.
  • The presentations, recordings, and other related documents will be uploaded onto the CAEI website.

Due to logistical constraints the Conference organizers cannot guarantee simultaneous translation in every activity included in the program. The use of Spanish or English materials or visual supports is thus encouraged.

CAEI is an academic forum and it is therefore not possible to set aside blocks from the academic program for commercial purposes. Sponsorship opportunities are available for those who wish to present programs, services or products relevant to the international education sector. CAIE’s Secretariat is available to provide further information.
